Even if you decide to walk the event, there will be closed roads and support for you. In 2008, I walked the LA marathon in 7 hours and there were 5,000 runners behind me.
So if you have ever wanted to finish a marathon or actually enjoy the marathon experience, we have the training camp for you. In partnership with Joe Petersen's Building Better Bodies, the Bakersfield Distance Project would like to invite you to join our "Stadium to Sea" training camp.
- The key to success in training for a marathon is to stay healthy and complete a long steady distance run/walk at least once a week. Hopefully our training advice can keep you healthy and we have the weekly LSD covered for you.
- Every Saturday, our group meets for a long run and/or walk in the morning (7am usually) or a local road race that will help you achieve your marathon goal. Depending on the workout, we will meet at the Panorama Bluffs or Yokuts Park for our group training sessions on Saturdays.
- The group training session is designed to make your marathon experience enjoyable and not a death march or a DNF (Did Not Finish). The training will be hard but doable and is mainly about putting time on your feet and learning how to pace oneself. The hard part is putting in the time that is required to have a positive marathon experience.
- Often, you will be training for almost the same time it will take you to do the event and so your Saturday's before noon need to be free. The good part is you will be spending time with our great group of runners and walkers who will make the time as fun as possible.
- The fee for our 15 week "Stadium to Sea" training camp is $60. The fee includes a planned group training run/walk practice every Saturday, Expert Coaching, Training Schedule, Text and/or Email Support, Group Support, Informative Training Resources, and a stronger, fitter, faster you !!! - We also have a group walk on Sunday's that should not be missed because it will help your marathon experience whether you plan on running or walking the distance.
We also have a three day a week run/walk program that meets at Yokuts Park at 6pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as Saturday mornings. The fee for this 4 week program is $40.
Lastly, if you want a total body workout, Joe Petersen's Building Better Bodies Boot Camps meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5am at our gym at 1919 26th street and 6pm at Yokuts Park.
